Lifestyle | Daily Affirmations (How To Make Them + Why They're Important)

Hi friends!

I'm so excited to share this post with you! I've been making daily affirmations for quite some time now and they really help me. When I say "daily affirmations" I don't mean that I write them or make them every day. Instead, I mean that I make them every now and then and I repeat them to myself as it's needed for me. I've teamed up with UniversiTee Box to create a video on this topic! Watch it HERE on my YouTube channel!

I don't want to say too much about the affirmations until I define what they are! I'm sure some of you haven't heard of affirmations or aren't sure how to use them to help you & that's perfectly fine. This post is for you!!! I was introduced to them by my sister a few years ago, but it took me awhile to learn how to make them and use them in a way that was helpful to me. I'm so thankful she shared it with me. I hope that they can help you in some way!

A daily affirmation is: a statement that is declared to be true

It's a positive, true statement or phrase that you declare over yourself and repeat to yourself each day and especially in times of need.

How can you make some affirmations for yourself?

1. Reflect on your thoughts, dig deep to find your insecurities.
Spend a little bit of time reflecting on your thoughts and the way that you talk to yourself. What areas of your life need positivity? What things make you feel negatively about yourself or your life? What are your insecurities?

2. Write your thoughts down as you work through them and declare truth over them!
Once you've spent some time reflecting, I suggest that you write your thoughts down. I like to write down my thoughts as I'm thinking through them, but feel free to do whatever serves you best. If you can sort through all of your thoughts in your mind without pen and paper, go for it! Then declare truth over them.

For example if your thought is: "I'm ugly because all of my friends have more followers than me." Your truth would be: "I'm beautiful because I am one of a kind. I'm beautiful because my soul is beautiful. My beauty is not determined by my outward appearance or by my number of social media followers."

3. Find inspiration that speaks to you!
Search for positive inspiration that inspires you and speaks directly to the insecurities that you've reflected on. I really like to use quotes! You don't even have to write the affirmations on your own or from scratch. You can definitely (and I would actually encourage) you to use scripture, quotes, lyrics, etc. ... anything that is easy for you to recall and remember!

4. Write down your affirmations!
Write down the affirmations that you come up with! Write them in your journal, make bookmarks out of them, write them on notecards and hang them up where you'll see them often. You can do whatever you want with them, just write them out and make sure you can see them!

5. Memorize your affirmations!
Spend some time memorizing your affirmations. I think this one has helped me even more than writing them down and putting them places. Once you have something memorized, it's so much easier to recall it when you're trying to (and even when you're not trying to)!

Why are they important?
Daily affirmations are so important to me because they've been a tool for helping me work through my insecurities and negative self-talk.

What are some of my affirmations?

A lot of my affirmations have to do with where I find my worth and my struggle with chronic illness.

For my issues of self-worth here are some of my affirmations:

My value is not found in my appearance, it's not in my career, it's not in my number of followers. My value is in my soul. My value is not something that I can earn or increase. It is already there within me. I have worth, I am one of a kind and that makes me irreplaceable.

"You are worth finding, worth knowing, worth loving. You and your one million layers. Always hold that close." -Pinterest.com

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not. You are good enough" - Heather Stillufsen

For my issues with my chronic illness here are some of my affirmations:

"Not being able to do as much as others does not make you a failure." - Standouthealth.com
"Your health does not define you. Your strength and courage does." -Healthyplace.com
"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." -C.G.Jung
"Today I will do the best that I can and that will be enough for me."
