Lifestyle | Trying A New Protein Smoothie Recipe + How I Modify It For Crohn's/Colitis

I found this smoothie recipe on the Tone It Up Youtube channel. I'm absolutely in love with Tone It Up and the creators of it. I find a lot of my fitness inspiration and healthy recipes from them! I often have to alter the recipes a bit to fit my Colitis/Crohn's food plan. In the recipe below, I share the regular recipe and the steps that I changed for my smoothie. I love finding a new protein smoothie that I enjoy! Also, I'm not sponsored by Tone It Up, but I sure wish I was! Haha .. Hit me up Karena and Katrina!

Blueberry Coconut Dream Smoothie
Ingredients: 1 scoop Vanilla Tone It Up Protein (I got mine at Target), 1 cup spinach, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/8 cup of unsweetened coconut, 1 cup of coconut milk

Just blend all the ingredients together!
How I modify It For Crohn's/Colitis:

  • Currently, I'm following a low residue diet so I omitted the unsweetened coconut 
  • I juiced the spinach and the blueberries in a juicer and used the juice instead of putting their entirety into the blender mixture
  • I used fresh blueberries instead of frozen (so that I could juice them more easily)
  • I doubled the recipe's amount of spinach and blueberries (to get more juice out of them)
  • I added ice because I didn't use as much frozen fruit as the recipe calls for
My recipe: 1 scoop Vanilla Tone It Up Protein, 1 2 cups spinach, 1 2 cups frozen blueberries, 1/2 frozen banana, 1/8 cup of unsweetened coconut, 1 cup of coconut milk, + 2 cups ice
I really really liked this smoothie! This was my first time using the Tone It Up protein and let me tell ya, it's amazing! It smells like cake batter when you first open the container. I tasted the vanilla cake-like flavor and the sweet coconut flavor the most. With this smoothie, you really can't taste the greens. Personally, that's how I like my smoothies! I prefer them to taste sweeter. I will definitely be making this one again. I love that you can get your greens, fruits, and protein all in one with this recipe!
